The last few days, summer air has been glazing our cerulean skies with the heady scent of jasmine in bloom. Rorschach clouds drift over landscapes brimming with sage green, and I couldn’t resist… the weather demanded a Turner-inspired watercolor family tree. This one is subtle. The 9 generation radial chart is a gentle layer over the clouds… one large eye of history, looking out. Because of the subtle tones, from a few feet back, this reads as an innocent landscape painting, but up close, there is a chart where the names of ancestors can be inscribed upon the sky. Using blue ink the color of the sky adds effect to an impressive yet mysterious family heirloom.

TO USE THIS PEDIGREE CHART TO TRACE THE LINEAGE OF A SINGLE PARENT:
To document the family line of a single parent, write their name in the main circle at the center of the tree. This print has room for 9 generations of ancestors in the fan chart and a place where you can write in 2 generations of descendants (children and grandchildren). In this case, it shows 11 generations. 9 of ancestors, and 2 of descendants.

TO USE THIS LINEAGE FAN CHART FOR A COUPLE:
To document the family lines of both parents, put their children in the central circle, then the area below the tree will be for writing in grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In this case, it also shows 12 generations. 10 of ancestors, and 2 of descendants. The difference is that the lowest branches in this example are for great-grandchildren.
