I wanted to come up with an aesthetically pleasing way of presenting all 2,048 ancestors in an 11 generation pedigree chart, without the last generations being too tiny, so this is my solution.
Here’s how I approached fitting all those people:
There’s a circle at the top left for the main (or root) Couple. (That’s generation 2.)
There’s a circle at the top right for that couple’s children. (That’s generation 1.)
In the main part of the image, there are two large circles.
The one on the left is for the wife’s line, starting with her parents (generations 3-11.)
The one on the right is for the husband’s line, starting with his parents (generations 3-11.)
There are two additional circles at the bottom in case you need space for additional historical information. These areas could also be used for grandchildren, which would allow you to squeeze in an extra generation of descendants. Or you could use it to record siblings of the main couple. You can start each circle with the family name for his and her family lines, or use them in any other way you see fit.
If you wish to add a family tree title to the whole image, there is enough margin below the illustration to do so.
☛ WHAT YOU GET
• 1 PRINTABLE DIGITAL JPG FILE, with the largest possible dimensions (details below).
It is a very large, horizontal, INSTANT DIGITAL DOWNLOAD measuring 77.4 inches wide by 64.56 inches high, at 72 pixels per inch.
That’s over 6 feet wide! I made this image as large as I possibly could with the scans of historical documents at my disposal. If you print it smaller than that, it will print at a higher resolution, which will make the image appear sharper.
Maximum File Size / Dimensions (of course you can print it smaller if you like):
5573 x 4648 pixels
77.4 inches x 64.56 inches
6.45 feet x 5.38 feet tall
72 ppi (pixels per inch)
• 1 PRINTABLE PDF FILE, 3:4 ratio.
This version of the image that has been prepared for printing at a 3:4 paper ratio, with a bit of extra margin added to the side.
• 1 BONUS VARIATION – A PRINTABLE DIGITAL JPG FILE, with the largest possible dimensions.
In this version, the bottom two circles are filled with art (instead of blank), and the text says children, parents, (m) grandmother, (m) grandfather, (p) grandmother, (p) grandfather. The (m) stands for the maternal line (mom’s side of the family), and the (p) stands for the paternal line (dad’s side of the family. Some people find this easier to fill out and read than the one with the old fashioned text.
